We are all aware by now that I love a bit of statement outerwear. Personally, I think it’s because the rest of my wardrobe is fairly muted and sedate – it must be the crazy side of my personality just desperate to unleash itself on the world expressing itself via my fairly impressive selection of winter coats and jackets, which of course form a staple part of my autumnal styling.
I recently did a round up of the top 10 high street winter jackets, which firmly established that my obsession with all things statement is here to stay for another season. While putting the list together, I found myself drawn to lots of faux fur (surprise surprise) but also to a lot of faux leather and vinyl. Both fabrics are absolutely everywhere on the high street this season and while I already have a full length vinyl trench (learn how to style the vinyl trench) I really couldn’t resist adding a shorter jacket to my collection too.
Cue this absolute beauty coming into my life. Now I will admit, this purchase was more than a little inspired by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the incredible Rick Dalton’s wardrobe. Honestly I’m so obsessed with that film it’s a little ridiculous, and while the story and cinematography is absolutely out of this world it is the wardrobe and costumes that have truly stolen my heart. I’m currently coveting everything 70s themed (which is a sentence I never thought I’d type), and it seems I’m not the only one. Brown and tan leather jackets are everywhere right now and if there is one way to nail your autumnal styling this year it is by embracing everything rust toned!
In this outfit I’ve kept things fairly simple and let the jacket really do the talking: a plain black jumper by & Other Stories, a skirt that was gifted to me last year by Miss Selfridge, and of course my Balenciaga boots which have not left my feet so far this autumn. By keeping everything completely monochromatic, the jacket was able to do exactly what it was made for: totally steal the show. Click here to add it to your collection too (not affiliate).
