We have surpassed September 23rd and you guys, it’s official. Autumn is here. Officially. It is officially Autumn. Can you tell I’m excited? I’m going to stop typing in very short sentences now. Ok, so as we have already established, Autumn is here, I am excited, and with it comes a whole host of new styling challenges for the season ahead such as ‘how to make my outfit look stylish when really it’s just going to be covered by a coat for the next million weeks’. Ladies and gentlemen, please let me draw your attention to the star outerwear attraction of the season: the vinyl trench.
You guys may remember this particular beauty from earlier in the year, when I wore it for the first time and felt like Bladerunner and when I gave you some tips for styling it for springtime.
It really does transcend every season…
You can imagine how happy I was when I woke up and realised it was officially cold enough to bring it out of its summer retirement and I could have another season reunited with what has got to be one of my favourite outerwear purchases ever.
The past few times I styled the vinyl trench I played it safe, however this time I felt a lot more confident in what I was wearing and wanted to mix some colours and silhouettes to create a more exciting outfit than just black on black on black. I know, who am I?!
I’d started with some hideous flu virus the day before these photos were taken, and while you can’t tell from looking at me, the constant shivering definitely had a hand to play in what I picked out to wear that day starting with the jumper on the top half. This is a beautiful brushed cotton affair from Stradivarius that is unfortunately no longer available but I love with my whole heart. It’s nice and thick so perfect for those days that come complete with brisk Autumnal chill, but not too thick that you’re sweating by lunchtime and clawing at your skin – aka the perfect Autumnal top.
On the bottom half I threw on my grey tailored trousers from Topshop to add a bit of smartness and sophistication to an otherwise very casual outfit. I really loved the juxtaposition between the smart tailored trousers and the brash, statement vinyl. Combined with my Balenciaga Triple S on the bottom half it really was a mash up of all my favourite styling elements and I was feeling myself.
The beauty of the vinyl trench however is just how versatile it is – while I’ve styled it super casually here it looks incredible over the top of a suit for during the day or a smart dress in the evening and adds a bit of a statement to every outfit. I actually included a few options available on the high street in this post here, so make sure you head over there to snap one up if you haven’t already!
