I have a story about this suit. Not something worthy of a Man Booker Prize just to set your expectations, but a story nonetheless. I got it almost two years ago from The Kooples – it was one of my holy grail clothing items and I cannot even put into words how happy I was to bring it home with me. I decided to save it and bring it out to wear on the red carpet at last year’s BFI London Film Festival, but alas when October rolled around I had put on a bit of weight and could no longer get the trousers done up. Cue a minor breakdown and much swearing before I compromised and just wore the jacket with a different pair of trousers #logic.
I was determined to slim back down into it so that I could wear it this year, and thanks to the horrendous stress of the past six months or so I had a pleasant surprise when I got it out of its suit bag a few weeks ago and it actually fit me better than it had when I first bought it. I therefore couldn’t resist bringing it with me to shoot with the ever so talented Christina.
There was something about swanning round the Northern Quarter in Manchester wearing a designer suit and lingerie that made me feel like I had my shit together in ways that no other outfit does. I felt confident and sassy and like I could take over the world one board room at a time and when an outfit evokes that kind of feeling in me I never want to take it off.
While perhaps not the most weather appropriate combination for Autumn or Winter once the cool weather rolls around, I’m definitely going to be keeping the power suit as a staple for my AW wardrobe. I can see myself swanning around wearing a suit and oversized coat, some trainers and some statement jewellery and that is 100% a vibe I want to get on board with. I’m not too bold with my colour or print choices so I will be sticking firmly in my comfort zone of monochromatic colours, but I’m still so excited to experiment.
Are you a fan of the statement suit? How would you style one for AW? Let me know in the comments!
