I feel like I’ve spent a lot of time recently talking about deep and meaningful topics on this here blog, so today we’re going to strip it back and just focus on the outfit. I often feel the most at home writing posts like this because it reminds me of the early days of blogging where I’d relay some sort of amusing anecdote with self-deprecating humour and then bang on about what I was wearing for a few sentences before signing off again.
Unfortunately I have no real amusing anecdotes to share with you today (aside from that moment when the skirt of my dress blew up in Embankment station recently and I flashed everyone) because my life right now is somewhat boring and revolves around work, but hopefully everything will soon begin to settle again and I’ll have a sense of normality back and will therefore begin to make new memories and have new stories to share with you.
These photos were taken on what I misguidedly thought was going to be the hottest day of the year, pre-heatwave and therefore pre the it’s-too-hot-to-wear-anything-I-have-melted wardrobe rut I am now finding myself in. Bulk buying new dresses just to get me through the next few weeks aside, prior to this year my ability to dress for the summer months was woeful and therefore every outfit I’ve put together over the past month or so is what can only be described as ~experimental, this one included.
I fell in love with this slogan tee the minute I saw it on the Topshop website (surprise, surprise) – it reminds me of some sort of American fast food uniform with the Hardcore Prawn Co. logo on the front, but the real beauty is in the back. Who wouldn’t want to walk around with a giant shrimp on their t-shirt? I bought it in a medium as I wanted it to be super oversized but it is quite an oversized fit anyway so bear that in mind. I may potentially be able to style this as a dress too (insert quizzical face emoji here) providing it satisfactorily covers my bum which gives it major brownie points and it’s been a firm favourite in this year’s summer wardrobe.
I decided to team it with my more tailored shorts that I received from Look of the Day last year – you’ll be well versed in these beauties now having seen them so many times over the past 12 months or so but they really are so comfortable and make an outfit look that little bit more put together than the average pair of denim shorts. I threw my Missguided blazer over the top despite it having seen better days at this point as I thought it could potentially give the outfit the look of a suit. I was wrong, but enjoyed the combination nonetheless.
Finally to accessorise I chucked on a pair of Versace sunglasses (how boujee of me) and this amazing leather look Topshop cap that has definitely saved me from a burned scalp on more than one occasion during this heatwave. I finished the outfit with my new Zara sandals which I adore despite them cutting my feet open on first wear – they remind me a little of the Gucci sandals I’ve seen a lot of bloggers in recently, and I really enjoy how delicate they look on my feet. It makes a nice change to wear something like that rather than trainers and I’d like to think my feet thank me despite the injuries.
How are you coping with dressing for the heatwave? Any tips, send them my way!
