Do me a favour ok, and cast your mind back about 15 years. Can you remember any brands that particularly defined you then? That captured your imagination and inspired your style? That gave you the confidence to begin experimenting with clothes?
For me, it was Converse. I was just starting to dabble in alternative fashion having fallen in love with the music at about age 9, and as I was finishing up primary school and heading into secondary school I became obsessed with Converse. I think it was a mixture of seeing bands like Blink 182 and Green Day rocking hi-tops, and seeing Avril and her beaten up Vans but I became like a woman possessed and all I wanted was my own pair of hi-tops or skate shoes.
Mum made my dream come true one birthday or Christmas (I can’t quite remember which) and a pair of Converse hi-tops made their way into my collection. They ended up completely beaten up I wore them so much, with band lyrics scrawled on them and questionable laces added to them but I truly adored them. When I was a bit older, I bought both a black pair of the all-stars, and a few years later a burgundy pair and to this day I still wear them to death.
You can imagine then, my absolute joy when a Prodirect Select got in touch and asked if I wanted to receive a surprise from the new Converse X Miley Cyrus collection! I, of course, said yes immediately and spent the rest of the afternoon in work in a state of mild shock, eagerly awaiting the arrival of my parcel so I could see what I’d been sent.
I actually filmed my first impressions of the shoes while I unboxed them, so I’ll spare you the description but lets just say I was beside myself with excitement to receive the oversized paisley print t-shirt dress and the amazing platform converse. I knew for their first wear that I wanted to style the two up together, so I enlisted the help of my babe Kaye and headed into London to grab some shots.
The shoes especially are going to be such a summer staple for me this year. You all know I’m a massive sneaker fan but it’s going to be amazing to have a slightly more lightweight pair in my collection that will work perfectly with both denim and dresses for the summer. I’m under no illusions that I’ll be able to keep them this clean and pristine for long but I’m gonna try my best!
Have you picked up any of the collection for yourself? How would you style these trainers? Let me know in the comments below!
