Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d type (or at least, never before I met Joe anyway): last week, I went to the premiere of my boyfriend’s first ever feature documentary film. That he directed. I mean I’m still kinda pinching myself, it was the most incredible evening and it kinda feels a little like a dream but in a really, really good way.
So Joe, alongside acting, is also a director and producer, and this film is the culmination of many, many months of hard work alongside the subject of the documentary, drag artiste Cookie MonSTAR. It follows Cookie’s 21 years in the business and without giving you the entire movie pitch it’s really bloody good and you should definitely listen out for more info about where it will hopefully be distributed cos I mean you’re gonna want to watch it. #notbiased
Anyway, we both wanted to look great for the evening – there were press in attendance and hell it’s not often you get to celebrate your boyfriend’s first premiere now is it?! The very kind folk at Boohoo Man and Nasty Gal sent Joe and I an outfit each to wear for the evening and I have been so excited to show you what I chose.
Firstly, my aim for the evening was to go a little out of my comfort zone and wear something more striking, but also choose items that I would be able to style again with my regular wardrobe for both day and night. I was absolutely 100% sold on this star print bodysuit the minute I saw it. Granted it is very low cut at both the front and the back making modesty a little tricky (£4 silicone nipple covers and half a packet of tit tape saved my ass) but I am so in love. The little metallic stars everywhere are definitely a vibe I’m feeling and those sleeves man I can’t cope. I can’t wait for the weather to get a little warmer so I can actually wear this out and about during the day – I can imagine it adding a totally different vibe to my usual sports luxe outfits and my god I am FEELING IT.
Now, onto the silver pants. I had originally wanted a green pair but they were out of stock and I’m actually so glad about that – I feel like it was an act of heavenly intervention because I am all about these silver trousers. They’re a super stretchy fabric that makes them not only so comfortable you occasionally wonder (read: panic) that you’re not actually wearing trousers at all, but they also accommodate inevitable food babies and we all know that’s an important part of any trouser. They went perfectly with the bodysuit, and with my Topshop western style waist belt to break up the waistline slightly I was absolutely made up with the outfit. For my makeup on the night, head over to Instagram (I was far too drunk to take passable blog photos so I have to admit these are a re-enactment two days later once the hangover had finally left me). Teamed with a pair of Topshop strappy shoes and I was ready to dance the night away!
How would you have styled these pieces? Do you think I made the right choices for my evening? Let me know in the comments!
