Have you ever brought something new into your wardrobe and felt immediately guilty because you wear it so often and love it so much that you begin to think your old wardrobe favourites might be getting jealous? This is absolutely 100% my current predicament when it comes to this Zara sweater dress.
I bought it on a whim before Christmas thinking that it may be a good addition to my winter wardrobe – I’m lacking a skirt that I favour as much as my a-line Urban Outfitters skirt circa 2014, and I don’t always feel like wearing trousers but often I can’t find a dress that actually suits me and gives me that relaxed vibe I always look for in my outfits.
This filled all the dress related holes in my life – it’s short but not too short providing I remember to wear shorts underneath it, it has a super oversized relaxed fit to it meaning that I can eat as much as I want and the inevitable food baby never shows, it’s short sleeved but also long sleeved enough to not get cold in the winter, it has distressed hem lines so it’s not too structured and to top it off it has a slogan on the front and we all know how I feel about a slogan.
I decided to try my Zara mesh dress underneath, it is something that I have really struggled to style since I wore it in this post last year, and I very nearly put it in the bag of Clothes to Eventually Go on Depop. Then, on a whim, I decided to style it underneath this dress to shoot in last week and suddenly my love for it has been rejuvenated. I feel like it adds a little something extra to an otherwise fairly un-extraordinary outfit and I can’t wait to experiment with it more.
Finally, I threw on my old faithful River Island chunky boots and there we go, the ultimate sports luxe chic for January (although its worth mentioning here that putting a jacket over the top is advisable in current climates – I nearly froze to death shooting this and I’ve not felt the same since).
