As someone born in the early 90’s, I can remember most of the 90’s trends – while I like to think that at the age of 25 I have grown up somewhat and no longer wish to wear everything Groovy Chick emblazoned or flared jeans with flowers creeping up the legs, it is undeniable that some trends have stuck with me. For example, my love of cheesy slogan t-shirts from Tammy Girl seems to have matured into slightly more grown up cheesy slogan t-shirts from Topshop.
One trend I always wanted to jump on way back when I was a pre-teen (but alas was never allowed to) was the popper pants trend. Holy wow you guys I was desperate for a pair. To me, they were the ultimate cool fashion item – extra points if they were from a brand such as Kappa or Reebok. My Mum definitely didn’t share my tastes, although she did let me go all out ‘mosher’ once I discovered rock music and I think she realised I was a lost cause.
ANYWAY, fast forward about 13 years (dear god I’m getting old) and the popper trousers of dreams have finally landed in my collection thanks to the lovely folk at Shein. When asked to pick another item off the website to style up I couldn’t resist getting my hands on them – and I was especially pleased to see that they were one size fits all so I didn’t need to worry about getting them over my bum…
Since I love to embrace all things sports-luxe I decided to style them up in a more formal way – think sports with a hint of girl boss and a pinch of cocktails-after-work. (No I don’t know where I was going with that one either). Basically, I paired them with a slogan tee, my favourite heels and of course my Missguided blazer. I kinda feel like that blazer is 2017’s answer to the Rhianna beanie I wore throughout 2014/15 and the Urban Outfitters backpack that I literally loved to death.
Here’s wondering what 2018’s staple item will be, if anyone has any idea write it on a postcard for me. Or y’know, in the comments below would suffice…
Blazer: Missguided | T-shirt: Etsy | Trousers: Shein* | Shoes: Topshop
