Long time lurkers of LJLV will remember my firm avoidance of anything denim. Until early 2015, it had been about 7 years since I had last worn a pair of jeans. I don’t know what put me off them but I was genuinely terrified of wearing them, believing that they made my bum look even bigger than it already does and worried they would in effect turn me into a Professor Umbridge type character – in other words, squat.
I managed to break my jeans phobia in monumental fashion with a pair of Cheap Monday spray on skinnies that still to this day have a pride of place in my wardrobe. Now the scariest thing about denim for me is when it comes with a label saying ‘non stretch’. I mean really? What the hell am I supposed to do when I want to live my best denim life but also want to go for lunch? Where does the food baby go? Do you see my problem?
I spoke about this briefly in this post so I won’t go on about it again, but this year I made the decision that I wanted to branch out again with my jeans choices, only I wasn’t sure exactly which ones I wanted. I wanted a looser fit and a lighter wash but every pair I tried on weren’t right until I stumbled across these beauties.
You guys, I can’t stop wearing them. Literally every outfit I’ve reached for over the past few weeks has included them and when they have to go in the wash I get genuine separation anxiety. I have to admit though, the ripped knees are a little non-weather compatible for this time of year. Over the years I’ve rolled my eyes on many an occasion when my Dad has spied my ripped knees and asked ‘won’t your knees get cold?’ and then laughed for about 20 minutes at his sheer ‘wit’, but I hate to admit it, my knees are actually cold these days.
Is this a sign I’m getting old? Actually, please don’t answer that…
For a weekend back home, it was a total no brainer that I’d be taking these with me. I mean they’ve been worn literally every single weekend or outing since I first got them so I wasn’t about to leave them behind. I paired them with this undeniably awesome Barbie x Missguided t-shirt and my old Underground Creepers that I found back home. I love stumbling across old favourites like that when you least expect it – they have of course come straight back to London with me and I think I’ve worn them every single day since.
