I briefly spoke about my seven year jeans phobia on my blog a few years ago. A jeans phobia you ask? Well yes, I hated everything about them. I hated the way they made me look, I hated the way they clung to all the places I hated, and I hated the way they made me look even shorter because there was just no escaping my curvy hip and short leg combination. Then one day I went to Liverpool and had a little shopping spree, and one of the things I picked up and loved to my utter surprise were a pair of spray on Cheap Monday skinny jeans.
Talk about going from 0-100, in a matter of seconds I’d gone from jean hater to the tightest possible pair of skinny jeans I could get my hands on.
Fast forward another three years and while I still wear jeans, I’ve never really branched out with the style until now. As I’ve put more weight on again, I’ve started to dislike the way skinny jeans look on me when I’m not wearing heels to help balance out the size of my bum and the length of my legs (the taller I look the less I hate my curves basically) and so recently I’ve wanted to experiment a little bit more with the style of jeans that I wear, as well as the colour.
I’ve been after a pair of blue jeans for a little while now, but I didn’t want to just get any pair – I wanted the right shade of blue and I wanted a looser fit without going flared or boyfriend fit. I struggled with the idea of mom jeans based purely upon the fact that they are notoriously unflattering around the stomach area. I knew I’d have to size up in order to get them round my bum, but the beauty of them is that they do make my bum and hips look a little smaller, while being huge around my waist. I’ve cinched them in with a belt to attempt the creation of a paper bag waist but I didn’t quite manage that illusion – perhaps when they get a little looser.
As I’m always one to embrace the current season and festivities, I found my spookiest item of clothing to team with them which just so happened to be this Boohoo t-shirt I got after Halloween last year for a fiver, and then to add a little summin’ summin’ I paired them with fishnet socks and of course my trusty Vans. I’m so pleased with the jeans and the outfit in general, it was comfortable and I felt confident in what I’d chosen to wear – something that happens with increasing rarity these days.
Do you have a pair of jeans that make you feel particularly great? What do you think of the way I styled these? Let me know in the comments below…
