First of all I’m going to begin this post with an apology – I know, I know, really not the best way to start a post but bare with me. I am very aware that I look like a member of the walking dead in these photos – I was visiting my family’s new house in Wales at the weekend but what should have been a relaxing trip to the Welsh mountains turned out to be a weekend of horrific travel chaos including but not limited to cancelled trains, 8 hour drives, 4 hours sat in traffic, one near miss accident, and a second broken down train. Its safe to say I was a little exhausted…
ANYWAY this post isn’t about how tired I am, this post is all about this dress from Boohoo! Boohoo very kindly got in touch with me a few weeks ago to see whether I’d like to take part in their Blogger X Dress of the Month campaign again and I jumped at the chance! You may remember me working with them on the same campaign earlier in the year where I styled up this shirt dress, so I couldn’t wait to see what they sent me this time to style.
For anyone not familiar with the campaign, Boohoo select one dress each month to be their dress of the month and they then send this on to a selection of bloggers to style. This dress could be right up your street or it could be the total opposite of what you would normally choose – the challenge is to make it work with your wardrobe!
This time, I received this gingham wrap dress with ruffled sleeve detailing and I have to admit my mind hit a total blank as to how to style it. I’ve never really tried a wrap dress before, and both the gingham trend and ruffle sleeve trends this year bypassed me, however I am always up for a challenge so after a bit of consideration I had made up my mind.
Firstly, I wanted to make sure this outfit still had all the alternative style vibes you know I love so much, so the first element I knew I’d need to include were the timeless fishnet tights and a pair of chunky boots. These added the perfect grungey spin to the dress and I enjoy the contrast between the print of the skirt and the mesh of the fishnets. As the dress is very low cut, and I have little to nothing in the chest area, I wanted to wear something underneath it too so I went for my Barbie X Missguided t-shirt and then to cinch everything in a little at the waist I teamed it with this Primark belt.
Overall, I’m really pleased with how I managed to style this outfit but I have to admit that the dress is probably not something I would wear day to day. I’m excited to try and style it differently in the future and I really enjoyed rising to the Dress of the Month challenge.
