I never thought I’d see the day when any type of flared trouser appeared on this blog, but I also said that about sports luxe, colour and patterns and well… look what happened.
Today I’m basically going to be waxing lyrical about how much I adore these Topshop kick flares that came into my life recently. I’m always looking for new ways to style the items in my wardrobe and I will admit that while I love the monochrome sporty look I’ve had going on for the past few years, every now and I again I like to mix things up a little, mostly out of the sheer fear of becoming boring or irrelevant. Right now I’m on the lookout for the perfect pair of light blue jeans because I don’t think I’ve had a pair in my wardrobe that aren’t black or grey since year 7, but that’s beside the point.
It was on one of these jean hunts that I came across these Topshop kick flares. From a distance, you’d be forgiven for thinking they were a really deep blue denim, whereas in reality they’re actually a black stretchy cotton material. I love this as it means I can still fit into the size 6 despite the extra pounds I’ve put on since I moved to London, and they fit like a dream.
I think the reason they fit into my wardrobe so well is partly to do with the contrast stitching. The white on black works so well with my favourite of all colour combinations, but I’ve always felt that it looks somewhat athleisure. Granted you wouldn’t be hitting the athletics track in a pair of flared trousers, but I couldn’t imagine athletes running in a pair of satin joggers either so I feel like I can be forgiven.
These trousers are a dream if you are like me, aka: well endowed in the booty department but sadly lacking in leg length. I don’t know what it is about a flare making your legs look longer and skinnier but well, they really do. I think the added width at the bottom of the trousers also helps to distract from my bum which is honestly only about an inch away from having its own gravitational pull, and in turn makes me feel about 8 times more confident so all in all 10/10 would buy again.
Wear with a slogan tee for that model off duty look, or if you want to go super chic team them with a white shirt (semi untucked), a statement bag and a pair of trainers or loafers…
