I fully attribute my becoming the person I am to New York City. I’d never really traveled before I went, and certainly had never gone anywhere without my parents, so when I signed up to the trip with my art school I was both excited and terrified in equal measures. I feel like my week in the Big Apple showed me a different side to life however and gave me so many magical memories from skating in Central Park listening to Christmas carols and feeling like I was in a movie, to running through the streets with my friends to avoid the torrential rain, to eating $2 pizza slices on the street corner and trying to avoid taking the wrong Metro train and ending up in Harlem.
Ever since that trip, I seem to have a homing instinct for anything New York themed whether that be homeware or new additions to my wardrobe. Usually one to shy away from colour, I’ve been finding myself more and more frequently drawn to this rich burnt orange colour and desperately wanted to get my hands on a piece to add to my own wardrobe, so when I saw this reverse slogan t-shirt on the Forever 21 website I couldn’t resist picking it up. Not only is it fabulous in every single way it also kinda makes me look like an escaped convict and I am strangely A-OK with this.
I’ve shied away from my more tailored looks while the weather has been scorching simply because I don’t actually have anything more ~luxe looking that is weather appropriate and ya gal couldn’t afford to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe just because it had gotten warmer, so when the weather cooled a little this week I was super excited to be able to style things in a way that feels more natural to me again. I love how the addition of a pair of statement boots and a boyfriend fit blazer can completely change the vibe of a t-shirt and take it from casual to dressy within a moment, and it totally worked for an evening in London.
Are you guys feeling the escaped convict look? How would you style up a casual item like this t-shirt? Let me know in the comments below.
