I'M BACK, BITCHES (WELCOME TO 2018)

Fashion Blogger Lucy Love

Welcome to 2018. I am typing this feeling a little smug - this year, Joseph and I chose to forego the usual New Year's Eve celebrations in London to have a quiet night in at home and toast in the new year ourselves, and therefore I am happily hangover free.

It's not that we were intentionally being party poopers, but there are no trains to our area of London this week and the last thing either of us wanted to do was get a night bus home so instead we sat on the sofa with a takeaway, alcohol and unlimited Disney movies on the TV. A better New Year's Eve has never been had.

This Christmas was one of traditions both old and new - Joseph joined my family and I up North for the first time this Christmas Day, and therefore we embraced some of his family traditions along with our longstanding ones - one of which is of course our annual trip to Manchester. This is a day I look forward to every year as it's an excuse to hit the shops with Mum, drink alcohol in some of my favourite bars and inevitably enjoy a beautiful lunch in one of the many quirky Northern Quarter restaurants. This year was no different, and while I didn't go crazy in the sales (I'm trying to be much better with money in 2018) I did pick up a few beautiful pieces!

Another post Christmas tradition for me is to try and wear as many of my new Christmas clothing items as possible for our first excursion back to reality after the festivities and this year I was particularly excited to style up a few items in particular.

Not technically a Christmas piece, this Zara sweater (although I'm so small I'm calling it a dress...) was one I picked up just before I finished work for the year and have since worn to death. I usually style it with a red long sleeve top underneath (see how in this video) however I stupidly forgot to pack the red top to go home with me so instead I borrowed a black long sleeve from Mum. I may be Northern but two years of living down South and my ability to deal with the cold seems to be depleting rapidly, so therefore I needed to layer up!

As the "dress" is pretty short, I shoved my favourite pair of NaaNaa shorts underneath that I very kindly got gifted last year by Look of the Day, and finished off the outfit with the most incredible pair of statement boots that Joseph bought me for Christmas. I spied these on ASOS a few months ago and had been lusting after them ever since so you can imagine how thrilled I was to unwrap them! I was a little worried about the height and whether or not I'd be able to walk in them but as the platform at the front is also pretty substantial they were incredibly comfortable and I didn't struggle at all - they definitely gave me all the Clueless vibes and I fully came over all Cher. I spent most of the day internally exclaiming "ew as IF" at everything I didn't like and they definitely brought out my more sassy side.

Finally we need to spend a minute admiring the piece de resistance, this stunning Karl Lagerfeld bag that I was very lucky to receive this Christmas! (Watch my 'What I Got for Christmas' video here) I love everything about this bag - it's surprisingly spacious inside, made of the most beautiful soft leather, and I am low-key obsessed with the chain detailing on the straps. Expect to see a lot more of this bag over the coming months. Sorry not sorry.

I think this is the most 'myself' I have felt in an outfit for a very long time. I enjoyed the experimentation that 2017 brought to my wardrobe but as the year went on I realised that actually, I was happier before. Some of my favourite 2017 items will forever remain (Pat Butcher shirt, tacky carpet boots and those gold boots of dreams to name a few) but for the most part I think sports luxe Lucy is back and here to stay.

What did you get up to this New Year's Eve? Do you have any traditions you stick to over every festive season? Let me know in the comments below!
