A STYLE AWAKENING

Fashion blogger Lucy Love

This post is coming at you sponsored by a cheeseboard and a very tasty bottle of sauvignon (and I'm not even a wine person).

When someone asks me to describe my style, I usually counter with the quote that has apparently been attributed to my lifetime bae Matty Healy - "my style is black, and expensive" but realistically that kinda makes me sound like a bit of a wanker and also my style is mostly black and from Primark/Zara/Topshop so I mean...

I did set myself the challenge at the start of this year to mature my style a little. Not that there's anything wrong with my perennial obsession with black and sports luxe, but I wanted to introduce new colours, textures, prints and silhouettes. This goal was going so well throughout the entirety of January but for some reason when February came around I fell straight back into my style rut and I've been there basically ever since, minus the occasional colourful t-shirt. And by occasional, I mean one.

When July dawned bright and sunny, rather than spending my clothes allowance on summer clothes which would have been the sensible option, I bought these trousers instead. Reasons for purchase included the racer stripe I'm so obsessed with at the moment (but please note its a beaut combo of beige and red rather than the usual white...), and the quirky silhouette which gives me all the 70's vibes. Clearly the only way to style them was with an outrageous printed shirt so say hello once again to my fave animal print monstrosity from Topshop that I love oh so much but do struggle to style.

I actually think this is my favourite outfit of the year. I wore it for my housewarming party and felt all kinds of outrageously fabulous - my only slight irritant being that due to my being what can only be described as a hobbit (Samwise Gamgee comin' atcha) every pair of trousers I ever buy seem to be far too long unless they're sold as ankle grazers. I did style these with my favourite heeled sandals but alas they still drag on the floor so until I find a pair of sky scraper heels that I can walk in comfortably this outfit and these trousers in particular are firmly relegated to the 'only wear at indoor events' section of the wardrobe.

  1. I love the shirt you've styled your trousers with, is it quite old? I've scoured the Topshop website but no joy!

  2. I love this!! As someone who doesn't have much colour or patterns in their wardrobe, this post and shirt just makes me want to get hundred of animal or not printed items! And it can look alternative and luxurious, you are the perfect example of that!
