STYLE SATURDAY #1

style saturday 1
If you've been reading this blog for a while, you might remember that I used to do a series every Saturday where I'd put together a Polyvore set of outfits that were inspiring me at the time, or that I basically needed in my wardrobe. I stopped doing that over the last few months while I tried to cut down on posting a little, however it is something that I do miss doing, so this morning I decided to reintroduce it under the name 'Style Saturday'.

I know I have a predilection for not wearing weather appropriate clothing basically ever, however this morning I woke up to blue skies and lots of sun and lying here in bed I could almost convince myself that it was, in fact, spring. Therefore I decided to put together an outfit that you would typically see me in once spring arrives and I can go outside with bare legs again without fearing for my life (another "perk" of living up North). I've been after a pair of leather shorts for as long as I can remember - I still haven't found the perfect pair (I'm sure these are probably no longer available *sobs*) but when I do find them, they will essentially look like this. Teamed with a loose fitting t-shirt that just screams comfort, a pair of trainers and chic clutch bag I'd be ready for (almost) anything. Of course no outfit is complete with out my trademark nude lip, I'm all about the 90's.

ANDROMEDA

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, texture is a real thing for me at the moment. I think that, the longer I blog for and the more I learn about fashion and textiles, the more appreciative I am of combining textures, prints and colours (ahem, yes I did say colour despite the entirety of my wardrobe essentially basically being black, white or grey). This probably explains why this coat has basically not left my back in recent weeks - not only is it the warmest thing I've ever worn but it just works in every way that I style it. Plus it generates that much static electricity that when I wear it, I remind myself of Peter Griffin in this Family Guy scene... (turn up your volume, the sound quality is crap).

For a casual days shopping in town, I wanted to embrace ultimate comfort without compromising on style. With the added warmth of this coat, I made the brave decision to wear a vest top and honestly I wasn't even slightly cold despite the Arctic conditions. My favourite Leggsington joggers were the trousers of choice for me that day - lightweight and comfortable yet tapering beautifully in the leg and looking undeniably chic they worked so well to add to a totally monochrome look.

CELLULAR

So, puffy eyes and crazy hair aside, I'm actually a little bit enamoured with this outfit. Admittedly definitely not weather appropriate right now, I felt pretty amazing wearing it and a little like I could take on the world. I don't know if that's a side effect of wearing sportswear and leather combined but this is a combination I intend on embracing a lot over the coming weeks and months so I shall keep you posted.

The top is the first item from the BoohooFIT collection that I decided I absolutely needed in my life, so it stands to reason that it's the one I show you guys first! I was originally going to wear it as it was intended - as gymwear. But when my items arrived and I discovered the amazing quality and sheer wearability of the collection I quite quickly decided that actually, the items were much more beneficial to my daily wardrobe instead...

NEW BEGINNINGS.

This post should have gone up yesterday as part of my new schedule of Tuesday//Thursday//Sunday posts, however yesterday was really not a good day for me and the last thing I really felt like doing was even turning my computer on let alone sitting down and typing anything. Today, although only marginally better, has at least been well, better, and therefore I thought it was high time I confront the elephant in the room... the new look LJLV!!

Yes that's right, I finally took the plunge and bought my own domain. Gone are the days of .blogspot.co.uk and I am now the proud owner of the (much more professional sounding) www.ljlv.co.uk! I think this just goes to show that I mean serious business. Srsly.

With my swanky new domain, I needed a new blog layout which I got courtesy of the brilliant Pipdig. I finally feel happy with the look of my blog - that niggling feeling of something being just not right has finally gone and I'm ready to develop this little corner of the internet into my own empire. Srsly.

I need to stop saying srsly.

I've also decided that I really want to post more regularly, although the whole idea of 3 posts a week was to give me time to actually relax and unwind, I feel like there's something missing from my life when I'm not typing up content and editing photos and the thrill of daily blogging is almost intoxicating. That said, I'm still not aiming for 7 posts a week, I'm going to keep it to a more manageable 4 until I get into the habit of regularly scheduling and planning ahead. I still type everything up the day it's due to go live and it's only my photos that are organised in bulk.

So, a long rambling post for your Monday evening, but I hope you're all as equally excited as I am for what 2015 brings for LJLV!

ALPINE.

I realise these photos aren't the greatest, I was desperately trying to shoot them before the ominous black clouds emptied all over me. As it is I missed getting soaked by approximately 30 seconds, escaping into the shelter of my house with my camera stuffed protectively up my jumper. The things we do for love...

Wanting to play around with textures for a change, I decided to combine knit with leather and rather fell in love with the contrast between the two. It is undeniable that as the weather has gotten colder I've found many a way to style this previously 'unstyleable' (yes I did just take it upon myself to create a new word, and what?) jumper from Missguided. I actually think I've worn it more in the last few weeks than I have in the 6 months since I bought it. The leather joggers are basically surgically attached to my skin right now...

STAY GOLDEN.

Now I'd say it's not that often that I fall head over heels for a piece of clothing, but then really you'd only need to look back through my blog archive to see that in fact I seem to declare my undying love for a new piece every week. That said, these trousers really are something else.

The Kooples is a brand I've been dying to purchase from for the longest time. Every item from their current sport collection is so perfect that actually seeing it in the flesh in Selfridges over Christmas almost gave me palpitations. I wish I was joking. When I found these beautiful trousers in the sale it was hardly like I could leave them in the shop, I mean just look at them. Undeniable perfection right there. The fact that they're the comfiest things I've ever worn and go with literally everything in my wardrobe only deepens my love for them, so much so that I've barely had them off for the last week and I actually had separation anxiety when they went in the washing machine. Promise I don't have issues.

Oh and yes, that is a BoohooFIT crop I have on. Yes it is absolutely beautiful, and no I cannot wait to showcase it properly on the blog, hopefully next week.

INCITYLIGHTS.

I have always felt an affinity with the city.

Spending so long living inside my own head, the anonymity and endless possibility never ceases to fascinate me. Often asked why I want to leave the idyllic little town I've grown up in, a baby city if you will, I never know how to answer yet the reason is etched onto my retinas so deeply that every time I close my eyes it's all I see. The city.

I want the dark nights crossing the road in the rain, headlights permeating the darkness, footsteps wearing down the streets, the snatches of conversations gleaned in passing groups of people. Coffee shops open into the evenings, crawling into an armchair with a book and a mocha watching life happen and feeling so infinitely satisfied that these people don't know me and I don't know them, but for that split second we were a part of something great, something greater than you or me. Something infinite.

Falling out of clubs with friends, alcohol running through our veins.

I don't wanna be your friend; I wanna kiss your neck.

Music and atmosphere. Life, infectious in its beauty. Devastating yet wonderful at the same time. Tube journeys, speeding underneath a city so vibrant and alive. Discovery.
Living.

MINDSWEEP

I didn't realise that today was Friday until about 20 minutes after I woke up, then I felt in a strange sort of limbo for most of the day. Now it's 9pm and I'm still trying to work out where on earth this week has gone and why it didn't inform me that it was passing. In my head its still Tuesday afternoon. Time flies when you're having fun...

These trousers might just be my number one purchase ever. EVER. I didn't even mean to get them. I was leaving Topshop all pleased with myself for not buying anything in the sale and then next thing you know I catch sight of these beauties out of the corner or my eye and BAM! I knew I couldn't go home without them, they just had my name written all over them (not literally of course, I don't they would be half as nice if they had Lucy written all over them). I decided to give this layering fandango a go, and teamed my mesh RUNWAY crop (see Mum, I knew I'd find ways to wear it!) with an old Topshop crop I dug out of the depths of my wardrobe. The word laying has to be used quite loosely though, it implies warm clothes and winter appropriate fashion choices rather than two crop tops and a lot of bare flesh but I think it works quite well. I like to think it embodies 'urban chic' rather than 'closet goth' but I'll let you be the judge of that.

Also, these are the first photos taken with my new remote shutter. Admittedly not the best in the world but I'm looking forward to practicing with it and having the freedom to shoot whenever I feel like it rather than whenever photographers are available ;)

ANOBRAIN.

Shout out to my awesome best friend Holly for taking these shots while simultaneously juggling imminent death by unexpected cars, marauding groups of small children, and very hungry shoppers. Chester is busy right now.

Feeling uber sophisticated (dahhling) and ever so ladylike in this faux fur and leather panelled jacket I got for Christmas eons ago, and actually leaving the house in a skirt (!!!) I decided that the perfect setting for these shots was in front of the Grosvenor Hotel. It's usual entourage of Ferarris, Porches and Aston Martins were sadly absent however, where are the rich and famous when you need them?! I mean hello, trying to do a blog shoot over here! Styling this skirt with my 'lol ur not matt healy' shirt seemed like the most natural thing to do since, er, picking all the chocolate off a Kit Kat (please tell me I'm not the only one) and I definitely think it worked well, you can't beat a good slogan. I'd actually go as far as to say that this shirt is without doubt my FAVOURITE. SHIRT. EVER. Yes, caps were totally necessary. Yes for a while there I thought I'd spelt favourite wrong as it looked funny. No I'm not sorry.

Almost wore this shirt on a date the next day, then decided perhaps drawing attention to my love of Matty Healy so early on would perhaps not be the best idea. Maybe next time. I'll keep you posted. Fingers crossed he doesn't read this.
